THE traditional Lammas Fair Races will take place in Inverkeithing on Friday evening.
The event - which includes the historic Hat and Ribbon Race - started out in the town hundreds of years ago with local shepherds competing to win a ribbon for their sweethearts.
A road closure will be in place on Hope Street with townsfolk expected to line the streets to cheer on those taking part.
The main Hat and Ribbon race, for males aged 15 and over, must be run in "everyday clothes" and participants must be resident in Inverkeithing and of amateur status.
There's £50 up for grabs for the winner, with £30 for second prize and £20 going to third place.
The same cash is available in the Ladies Lammas Race, which is also for those aged 15 and over.
Both events are sponsored by the Half Crown pub.
There will also be six races for boys and girls, for those aged six and under, aged seven to nine and 10 to 14.
The evening will get underway from Forth View Church at 6.45pm with pipers, dignitaries and residents parading to Hope Street.
All race entrants should present themselves at the starting line by 7pm.
The prize giving will take place in the civic centre and all trophies and medals have been kindly donated by Inverkeithing United FC.
The Lammas Fair Races, organised by Inverkeithing Community Council, always take place the evening before Inverkeithing Highland Games, which starts at 10.30am on Saturday.
