STAGECOACH has announced extra express buses in advance of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe kicking off on Friday.

The company said it's doubled services to get festival goers to and from the capital and added more evening journeys.

The frequency of the X55 service between Dunfermline, Rosyth and Edinburgh has increased.

Daytime journeys which run every 30 minutes will now be every 15 minutes and the number of evening journeys have been doubled.

They will now run every 30 minutes, seven days a week.

Stagecoach has also introduced late night journeys on the service running Monday to Saturday between Edinburgh and Dunfermline.

Douglas Robertson, managing director for Stagecoach East Scotland said: “Service X55 is already one of our most popular services, so it’s great to see service levels double and new overnight services launching, and just in time for the Edinburgh Festival starting!

“I’m sure the service will continue to attract new demand from those in Dunfermline and Rosyth who want to visit our capital city and see all it has to offer.”

Services will leave from St Andrews Square at 1.15am and 3.15am Monday to Saturday and 1.15am on Sundays.

The frequency on services X54, X56, X59, and X61 is also increasing so customers can take departures to Edinburgh up to every five minutes from Ferrytoll Park and Ride and up to every 15 minutes from Halbeath Park and Ride.

A DayReturn ticket is £6.50 for those travelling from Dalgety Bay, Dunfermline, Inverkeithing, Rosyth, Kelty, Ferrytoll Park and Ride, Halbeath Park and Ride and Cowdenbeath.

Mr Robertson added: “With more services during the day, at the weekend and evenings, it’s never been easier to leave the car at home or at a Park & Ride, and travel by bus."
