A FALLEN firefighter from Rosyth was commemorated at an event held in his honour on Saturday.

Barry Martin, who died on January 27, 2023 following injuries he sustained tackling a blaze at the Jenners building in Edinburgh, was remembered by family, friends and the community at a celebration to mark what would have been his 40th birthday.

Organised by the Barry Martin Foundation and the Pars Foundation, the event at Pitreavie Sport and Soccer Centre was dubbed Barry Martin Day.

Following the event, the foundation posted on Facebook: "The first Barry Martin Day was a huge success. What a day. What an outstanding, beautiful, exciting, happy day!!

"My voice was hoarse last night from the many wonderful conversations I had with the community and with friends. You travelled far and wide to be part of this. It was heart warming."

The event saw a bench unveiled in Barry's memory, free football sessions, a range of fun activities, inflatables for the kids to bounce about, as well as food and refreshments.

They continued: "Thank you to everyone who took the time out of their day to come and celebrate Barry and his 40th birthday.

"Our hearts swelled to see you sit on his bench, to read about his story, to sign the biggest birthday card you have probably ever seen, and to see so many smiles and hear so much noise and chatter.

"Thank you to our dear friends and family who cut and served cake, took sweetie orders, and donations, and made sure that everyone was attended to. For those who helped with Daisy the dog, with transportation, storage, setting up, and clearing up, you are incredible.

"Thank you to the talented individuals who helped to make the day so special, with an outstanding DJ, Face painter, photographer, range of inflatables and activities and to Dunfermline Fire Station who attended and even took part in the Sumo wrestling.

"A sincere thank you to The Pars Foundation. What a team. What a day."

All the money raised at the event will go back into the Barry Martin Foundation.
