TWO Dunfermline men have completed a 42 mile walk to raise vital funds for their local kids football team.

Kevin Spence and Neil Greenford completed the mammoth fundraiser to support Duloch Juniors 2018s, whom their kids play for.

They were joined in the walk by Kevin’s younger brother Callum Ford, who lives in Dundee, as they set off from St Andrew’s towards Dunfermline.

Kevin said: “My son plays for the team and they were looking to raise some money to put on winter futsal tournaments and hand out trophies at the end of the season.

“I’ve been doing some fundraising for it but we needed to do something really out of the ordinary, so I came up with an idea for people to really want to sponsor us.

“We wanted to really go the extra mile and raise some money for the kids. My son plays and he loves it and we really wanted to make sure they got their trophies at the end of the year.

“They’ll now get their indoor futsal tournaments in the winter, the idea was to just raise as much money as we can for the young guys.”

Kevin and Neil set off from Dunfermline at half 2 in the morning, picking up Callum before reaching their start point in St Andrew’s.

“It was gruesome,” Kevin laughed. “We started from the middle of St Andrew’s at four in the morning and set off from there.

“It was meant to take us 15 hours from St Andrew’s, Cupar, Glenrothes then all the way through Kinglassie, Lochgelly, Cowdenbeath, Inverkeithing and over the bridge."

The Duloch Juniors 2018s met them at the finish line, which they reached at 5pm, two hours ahead of schedule.

Altogether, the three men raised a whopping £700.

Kevin added: “It only took us 13 hours in the end. I won’t lie though, it was gruesome, absolutely horrendous.

“The last few miles was really tough but it was great seeing the kids meeting us at the end and overall it was a great experience.”
