AN elderly West Fife man thought he was “going to die” when a car almost hit him as he tried to cross a road near his home.
Bill Stevens, 75, lives in Fordell and said he takes his life in his hands every time he tries to cross Clockluine Road to get to and from the bus stop.
It's a busy road, the main route between Dunfermline and Dalgety Bay, and he said cars often exceed the speed limit and there is not a lot of visibility on the road.
Bill said: "It's dangerous traffic, speeding, inconsiderate drivers honking their horn when you are halfway across the road and nearly don’t stop.
“I thought I was going to die when I crossed the road, and a car came speeding around the corner.
“The traffic is upon you before you know it.”
He got in touch with Cllr Dave Dempsey about how dangerous the road can be. Bill timed how long it takes him to cross the road, and it can take nine seconds, which is less time than it takes for cars to come along.

“I am out there quite regularly, nearly every night with my dog, just taking him up and down, and the traffic is speeding, cutting corners.
“If there’s a car that’s driving sensibly the other ones are up their backside.
“It’s going to take for somebody to get hurt before something is done.” Bill added.
Cllr Dempsey said: “I’ve talked to Leslie Craig and traffic management at the council and all they can offer is restoring a couple of 'elderly people crossing signs' which have disappeared.
“So really, we are stuck.

“If you are someone who’s fairly getting on a bit and isn’t in a position to run, it’s alarming.
“It’s unsettling and possibly preventing people to get out and about.
“I just want him to be able to cross the road in comfort.”
Ms Craig, lead consultant in traffic management at the council, told the Press: "We understand the difficulties at this location and we've put a number of measures in place including a remote footway/cycleway, a 40mph limit, a ban on goods vehicles over 7.5T and warning signage.
"We'll be replacing warning signage in due course to ensure they are visible to drivers."
