MEMBERS of the Sporting Memories group in Dunfermline were treated to a very special guest during their makeshift summer Olympic Games.

The group held their games at Abbeyview Bowling Club on Tuesday, July 30, allowing time for families and carers to spend time with their loved ones.

In fitting with the theme, the group was surprised by the appearance of Yvonne Murray MBE and her husband Tom Mooney.

The couple stopped by to chat with members and take part in the activities, bringing a smile to the faces of all who were there.

Yvonne is a former middle-distance and long-distance track and road-running athlete, boasting a bronze medal in the 3000 metres at the 1988 Olympic Games.

She also won gold medals at the 1987 European Indoor Championships, 1993 World Indoor Championships and the 1990 European Championships.

On the event, Yvonne said: “I have been privileged to have taken part in this event in Dunfermline.

“What an amazing time everyone had and being able to meet the families was so lovely.”

Yvonne serves as one of the patrons of Sporting Memories, remaining very active in the club network.

The club held games of hoopla, ice hockey, football and golf among many others across the day.

Refreshments were provided to all who attended and the club thanks Fife Health and Social Care Partnership for their support during the days.

Morna Fleming, Carers representative on the Integration Joint Board, said: “I was delighted to be able to join one of these events.

“What a wonderful gathering of all ages and abilities taking part, very competitively in a range of activities.

“This is exactly the kind of event which the partnership is very proud of and pleased to be able to support.”
