THE NEW £8 million Abbeyview Hub is almost complete.

From next month staff will start moving in and there will be a family fun day on Friday October 18 to kick off the celebrations and welcome everyone to the state-of-the-art facility.

Councillor Linda Erskine, communities and leisure spokesperson, expressed her enthusiasm: "We're delighted Abbeyview Community Hub is on track to open in the Autumn.

“This new, modern facility will add to the great work already happening in Abbeyview and will give the community the space it needs to grow and thrive."

The hub effectively replaces three buildings in the centre of the Dunfermline estate.

The council have knocked down the Tryst, the community centre is likely to follow, and they've enlarged and refurbished the former local office to create one big centre.

It has a new reception area with dedicated interview spaces, a multi-purpose activity space with linking fold doors for access to an additional space, a community function area to replace the existing community centre, an IT suite and a teaching kitchen.

There are also general use spaces, with several smaller rooms for various needs, a secure entrance for the after school club and an enclosed garden and play area.

Some longstanding users of community facilities in Abbeyview will be able to use the hub from next month.

The new addition is a year later than planned - it was due to open in September 2023 - and the estimated cost has fluctuated from £6.5m at the outset to £9.5m in November last year.

However, lower than expected tenders mean it's now coming in at nearer £8m.

The council want to get the community involved with the new hub and to come up with suggestions.

A spokesperson explained: "We envision the Abbeyview Community Hub as the beating heart of our community, and we need your input to make it truly special.

"Share your ideas on what you would like to see in the new facility by completing our survey at https://bit.ly/Abbeyview.

"Are you a local provider of physical activity, learning opportunities or a social group/organisation looking to hire space at the new Abbeyview Community Hub?
