A Steelend man who was disqualified for six years for drink-driving has had his ban halved.

David Wilson, 59, of Sunnybraes Terrace, was more than four times over the limit and it was his third drink-driving offence.

However, he managed to convince a sheriff to cut the ban imposed in July 2021 from six years to three years.

He had admitted that on 10th June he drove at Oaklea and Eastercraig Road, Saline, having consumed excess alcohol.

His reading was 89 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

At the original sentencing, Sheriff Alastair Brown noted it was Wilson’s third conviction for drink-driving.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said at that time: “He’s always been a drinker and there have been various times when the consumption of alcohol has been problematic.

“At this time, he was finding it difficult to deal with the break-up of this relationship and got himself into something of a mess.”

Sheriff Brown fined Wilson £1,275 and banned him from driving for six years.

Three years on, Wilson was back in the dock as he tried to have the disqualification period cut.

Defence solicitor Aime Allan said Wilson’s mother is in a care home in Kinghorn and it was difficult for him to get there by public transport.

Sheriff Krista Johnston granted the application saying: “I’m putting my trust in you.”
