A DUNFERMLINE woman has been nominated to be the city's local hero for the Scottish Parliament's 25th anniversary event in September.

MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville nominated Kathleen Langner for her outstanding contributions to the community.

She is the secretary of the Brucefield Tenants and Residents Association and played a key role in the regeneration of St Leonard's Park as well as helping to establish an Imagination Library project for young people in the area.

Kathleen, along with the association, also picked up a Dunfermline Press community champion award at a celebration in the Glen Pavilion in June.

She said: "It was such a surprise and honour to receive the letter telling me I had been nominated as a local hero.

"I don't think I have done anything special, it has been a privilege to be able to help facilitate much needed improvements in our community.

"None of which could have been achieved without much help and support and I look forward to seeing how much more we can achieve in the future."

The anniversary event on September 28 will celebrate the parliament's achievements over the past 25 years, as well as Scottish music and culture with performances from young people from across the country.

Ms Somerville, MSP for Dunfermline, said: "I am incredibly proud to have Kathleen represent Dunfermline and West Fife as our local hero.

"Her passion for community service and her relentless efforts to create positive change are truly inspiring.

"It is people like Kathleen who embody the spirit of our community, and it will be an honour to have her by my side at the Scottish Parliament’s 25th anniversary celebrations next month."
