PLANS are progressing to revamp a neglected city centre place of worship.

The former Erskine Church building was bought at auction by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Covenant Restoration Assembly.

As previously reported, the organisation is currently based at Abbot Hall in Wilson's Close but hope to breathe a fresh lease of life into the Pilmuir Street property and have brought back to full use by the end of the year.

A planning application for listed building consent has now been lodged with Fife Council for external alterations which would include the installation of solar panels, air source heat pumps and a gate.

A statement for planners said an air-to-air heating system is planned for the church's main hall.

"There will be two exterior heat pump systems placed in the building's (east) interior courtyard which feeds into multiple internal systems around the hall," it stated.

"The second alteration includes extending the fence to cover the main exterior stair entrance facing towards the shopping centre (from the public pathway to Kingsgate Centre) to control and deter anti-social behaviour, littering and vandalism.

"This will also ensure that there is no unauthorised access to the building or its grounds, and it is private access only. The gates will be unlocked during opening times only and the keys will be held by us as well as our neighbours as it is shared access to our entrances."

Also included in the proposals is the addition of 52 solar panels to the south face of the roof.

The church has been in existence in Dunfermline for 14 years with the old Dunfermline High School building, Duloch and Carnegie Leisure Centres and the Dell Farquharson Centre all previously used for its worship.

Earlier this year, pastor Dr Oluseye Ogunbayo told the Press that their congregation continued to grow and currently boasts around 150 members.
