THE BOOKING system at Dalgety Bay's recycling centre is set to be scrapped by the end of the year.

The system came into place at the site on Ridge Way at the end of July and, since then, there have been reports of drivers without a booking have to reverse out again into the busy road.

Fife Resource Solutions (FRS), the organisation that manages recycling centres on behalf of Fife Council, said the measure was due to “increasing demand and congestion at the site causing safety risks to the public and site staff” .

However both local councillors David Barratt and Dave Dempsey both asked for alternative solutions to be looked at.

Last month, it was agreed that a private meeting would be held with council leaders and FRS bosses to “thrash out” the issues.

Now, it seems, a resolution has been reached.

Updating members of Fife Council's South and West Fife area committee, Clllr Barratt said: "A further outcome of the meeting was there appeared to be political agreement and the outcome of the meeting was the booking should be removed.

"FRS are now being tasked to look at how to achieve that by the end of the year. A working group is being established with officers and councillors to agree a way forward to work through the details.

"We will bring the item back (to committee) in a few months – possibly to the next meeting or the one after that – but a solution by the end of the year to remove the booking system is the intention."

Cllr Dempsey said he had "no quibble" with the decision.

He added: "There will be two questions over time – how do we get this fixed and how do we avoid getting into this situation again."
