TIKKA look at the planned improvements for an Indian restaurant in Inverkeithing.

The Gulshan Tandoori is set for a major facelift and proposals approved two years ago in 2022 have now been tweaked to make it look even better.

The restaurant, on the corner of High Street and Hill Street, specialises in Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine and the plans include new lights, signs, concrete, guttering, stone repair, chimney works, roof repairs and slates, as well as the re-painting of the front door and the removal of the existing render and paint.

Local councillor David Barratt said it's all part of the town's heritage regeneration and posted: "With the fantastic reveal of Roshan's (the barber shop across the road), the Gulshan is not far behind.

"I was slightly concerned that the planning permission for the Gulshan indicated that after stone repair work, the building would be fully rendered, hiding the stone work.

"After discussion with council staff, I'm relieved to say the works found the underlying stone work in better condition than expected and a planning application has now been submitted to leave the stone work exposed.

"The works are very nearly finished and will be revealed this month.

"We're also told the wider town centre works will start this month.

"This follows significant delays, in part down to staffing issues within the council and delays in getting the works out to tender.

"Funders have agreed to extend the completion of the works to the end of this year."

At the time of the initial planning application, the Gulshan was closed after a paranoid restaurant worker had been stabbed to death by a colleague.

In September 2021, Abdul Foyez killed Mohammed Salim Uddin, 44.

However, he was acquitted of murder and detained at the State Hospital in Carstairs after the Crown accepted that he was suffering from diminished mental responsibility at the time of the offence.

The restaurant re-opened later in 2022.
