A FIFE athletics star made history as he broke a world record at his Paralympics debut.
Ben Sandilands, a member of Fife AC, competed in his first Paralympics at the Stade de France in Paris.
The 21-year-old, originally from Kirkcaldy, took part in the men’s T20 classification 1500 metre race today, claiming his first Paralympic gold and Britain’s fifth Para-athletics gold medal.
In addition to the gold, he also set a new world record for the T20 1500m race, clocking in a time of 3 minutes, 45.40 seconds.
This beat the previous record by 0.10secs, held by American Mikey Brannigan.

Ben previously won gold at the 2023 Para Athletics World Championships and had been looking ahead to his debut at the Paralympics.
He trains as part of a group based at Pitreavie Athletics Centre, coached by Steve Doig.
Steve previously told the Press: “It’s a great achievement to be picked. It’ll be a great experience.
“It’s just a case of how you perform on the day. Certainly he has the capacity to be involved in a race for the front, for a medal position, because he was the world champion.”
