North Berwick Environment and Heritage Trust (NBEHT) is looking for a new name and hoping the community can come up with the answer.

The Trust was established over 50 years ago as North Berwick Environment Trust, with a focus on conserving the built environment, and the word ‘Heritage’ was added to the name in 2021.

Now, the Trust is evolving again to become a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), which means that it needs a new name – ideally, slightly shorter and with a better acronym.

Olwyn Owen, Chair of NBEHT, said: ‘We’d love people to help us choose a new name and shape the future of our charity.

"Our new name should reflect the work we do and encapsulate our new mission statement: ‘To conserve, enhance and celebrate North Berwick – its townscape, heritage and setting’. We've put together a survey with a list of name options, and we'd love to know which one resonates most with the local community.

"And we’d welcome any other suggestions for our new name! The survey only takes a couple of minutes to complete, so we hope that lots of people will take part. Thank you to everyone for helping us continue to conserve, enhance and celebrate the town that we all love, now and for the future."

The Trust is currently leading a campaign to conserve and enhance St Andrew’s Kirk Ports and make it available again as a community asset, as well as managing the micro-gallery in the phone cabins at the west end of High Street, and publishing a popular series of heritage guides.
