A DUNFERMLINE woman has spoken of how meeting her long-lost sister has completed her life.
Kay Smart had been searching for her biological family members since she was 16 years old.
As previously reported in the Press, Kay was adopted at just two days old and grew up with “wonderful adoptive parents”.
However, Kay only found out she was adopted after starting her first job and she had to fill in information about where she was born. It was then that her mother told her she had been adopted as a baby.
Since then, Kay had worked hard to try and find her biological family, but to no avail.
The only information she had was her mother’s name, her maiden name, and her parents’ names.
She did however find out some information about her birth mother.
Kay’s birth mother, who lived in Canada, had been married, but was now a widow with a young daughter.
After giving birth to Kay in Edinburgh, her mother put her up for adoption and went back to Canada.
Eventually, Kay managed to be put in touch with her half-sister Heather through a post she made on the Long Lost Edinburgh Facebook page, bringing to end a 56-year search.

Heather lives in California, so the sisters decided to meet, with Heather travelling all the way to Scotland to see Kay recently.
Kay told the Press: “The visit could not have gone any better. Heather was everything I had hoped and more.
“We crammed in so much in the week she was here and she was able to tell me lots I didn’t know about my birth mum and birth family.
“It seems I come from a lovely, lovely family and that was obvious from how fantastic Heather herself was.
“We threw her a surprise party last Saturday which was attended by the most important people in our lives and everyone just loved her. Happy times.
“My son, Ryan, also surprised us by arranging a FaceTime call to the States to Heather’s daughter Stacy (my niece) and her husband Jeff.
“It has all been overwhelmingly emotional but absolutely fantastic.”
Heather and Kay will continue to keep in touch through email and FaceTime.
Kay added: “Meeting her has completed my life and I feel like a calmness has washed over me now, after meeting her after my 56 year search.”
