A DUNFERMLINE driving school has created a fresh educational video of the controversial Bothwell Gardens roundabout after a student was nearly caught by the layout changing the day before they sat their test.

Michael Hughes, who runs Max Pass driving school, was keen to ensure drivers know where they should be at the recently updated junction.

After previously downloading a video explaining the lay out of the route from each direction when the roadworks, which brought chaos to the city centre, had been completed, he has now had to create an update.

He explained: "The roundabout has changed again because they have changed the lay out coming from the Brig Chippy going to the station or Rosyth.

"It has gone back to something similar to what it was before but the only difference is when coming that way, you used to come into three lanes but you are now still approaching it in two lanes.

"It has caused a bit of confusion. I had someone who had a test on the Friday and it had changed on the Thursday night. Thankfully I was ahead of the game and made sure my student was aware of the changes.

"The biggest problem we are having is when are these lights going to be coming in. I have been informed by the council that they would not be coming on until the roadworks at the Elgin Industrial Estate are finished."

As with the previous video, Michael said they have had a lot of positive comments and feedback with the new one.

"People do appreciate these videos," he added. "We are trying to help everybody out. I will do an updated one once the traffic lights go back on."

Fife Council say a Site Acceptance Test (SAT) was done a couple of weeks ago which identified that the morning and afternoon peak ran smoothly, but the evening peak struggled to handle the volume on the Nethertown Broad Street leg of the roundabout.

As a result, they reinstated the ability to go south, using both lanes on Nethertown Broad Street with the fundamental change being to remove the hatched area and reinstate the second turning lane.

It is expected that this change will reduce the queuing on Nethertown Broad Street during peak hours.

Lining on Woodmill Street has also been removed and replaced with give way triangles while give way signage is set to be installed there.
