A NEW orbital cycle route is being planned for the city of Dunfermline.
It will go around the city using existing paths and making repairs where needed. It’s hoped that the route will be accessible for cyclists and walkers.
Cllr Derek Glenn commented: “It is largely based on existing stretches of footway. There are one or two bits where additional signage will be needed.
“I think in total it comes to 11 or 14 kilometres around the city, and beginning and ending in Pittencrieff Park.”
This new cycle route should also fit in well with the Green Space projects that are on the go at the moment.
However, at the moment there is no proposed timescale for the route being completed, or an estimated cost.

Cllr Glen added that he supports the idea.
“I think it will be really positive and it ties together a lot of things that are to support travel, individual wellbeing, the opportunity for folk to get out individually, with dogs, on bikes, or in groups.
“It’s absolutely a thing that will be helpful from a tourism point of view - another addition to the city.
“In general terms it is quite pleasing to see the consensus of support we are getting across the councillors in the Dunfermline area to back up what we are trying to do in terms of net zero, in terms of city status, also as a place to live and work.”
Fife Council have been approached for comment.
