A young Queen Anne High School student has triumphed at the Scottish Go Karting Championship, winning in his age category for the second year running.
Eleven-year-old Thomas Jackson first drove a Go Kart when he was just six years old and has been hooked ever since.
His mother, Susan Jackson said: “He just loves Go Karting. It’s all he thinks about, it’s all he talks about. He’s absolutely obsessed. He wouldn’t be able to do it at the level he is if he wasn’t so driven.
“Our family loves Formula One, and one day Thomas asked his dad how the drivers get into it. We told him go karting, so he started watching it on YouTube and he asked to have a shot.
"We took him to Larkhall Racing Circuit and since then he’s just loved it. Back then it was just a little hobby but now we’re going away most weekends. We could be in the top of Scotland or the bottom of England."
Thomas runs with a German based team called Kraft Motorsport and is mentored by European and world champion racer Lewis Gilbert, who recently started his own UK team.
Mrs Jackson said: “The kids he’s racing with are the best in Britain. He took part in the UK champs this year and finished in the top ten. He done phenomenally well.
“The whole family is involved because we’re away like three weekends out of a month. Sometimes it feels like a full-time job to be honest.”
Thomas is still a long way from sitting his driving test, but Mrs Jackson said: “Doing F1 would be a dream for him. He has to be 14 to drive the cars he wants to race, so there’s time to wait.”
