THE CITY of Dunfermline has been named the second-best hiking hotspot in Scotland by outdoor experts.
This ranking comes from a study by Blacks, Scotland’s best hiking hotspots, which looks at factors such as the number of trails, the percentage of moderate and hard trails, the number of dog-friendly ones, and their elevation.
Dunfermline came second only to Edinburgh with a score of 8.10. The area has 12 trails per 10 km² and has an average trail rating of five out of five.

13 per cent of Dunfermline’s trails have eateries, and 40% of its restaurants are wheelchair accessible.
For those looking for nearby walks, the Fife Coastal Path provides great views for hikers to enjoy, while the trails at Pittencrieff Park are ideal for a family hike.
Finishing behind Dunfermline was Aberdeen with a score of 8.03.
