A 45-year-old Dunfermline woman was caught driving on the A92 when unfit through drink or drugs.

Charlene Hynd, of Gilfillan Road, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

She previously admitted that on July 22 last year on the A92 eastbound between Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly she drove a car without due care and attention and repeatedly swerved.

She also admitted driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Depute fiscal Christine Allan said at 7.45pm police received a call about a suspected intoxicated driver who had been seen swerving and striking a kerb.

Officers tracked down the vehicle to the A92, saw it “swerving all over the road” and were “alarmed” about the risk to other motorists.

The car was stopped and Hynd was unsteady on her feet with slurred speech.

She told police she had taken Valium and was already on a heroin substitute.

Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison said his client had been asked to “give a lift to some males and felt compelled to do so”.

He added: “She has an insight to what could have gone tragically wrong here.”

Sheriff Krista Johnston told Hynd: “You presented a significant danger to the public.”

She banned Hynd from driving for 22 months and imposed a community payback order with 18 months of supervision.
