A Dunfermline man, who caused a disturbance and threatened staff in a pharmacy, has been jailed.

James Guthrie, 32, of Abbey View, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court by video-link from prison.

He admitted that on March 28 at the Well Pharmacy, Abbey View, he demanded medication, threatened to smash a privacy screen, knocked items from shelves, threatened staff members with violence, shouted and swore.

He also resisted two police officers and struggled violently with them.

Then on August 20 at his home, he acted aggressively, challenged police officers to fight, shouted, swore and made threats of violence.

He struck a police vehicle with his phone, repeatedly spat within the vehicle, repeatedly attempted to spit on officers, threatened to set fire to officers’ homes and vandalise their cars.

Depute fiscal Christine Allan said that at 3pm Guthrie had entered the pharmacy. “He started ranting and raving that he’d lost his medication and wanted more,” she added.

He became aggressive, grabbing a screen and threatening to smash it then knocking items off shelves.

When police arrived, Guthrie shouted: “You’re a f****** grass” towards staff.

In the other incident, at 5.50am police officers had taken Guthrie back to his home but he was refusing to get out of the vehicle and was acting aggressively.

He said they would have to use a pepper-spray to get him out. He was shouting, swearing and threw his phone at the windscreen of the vehicle.

When arrested and taken to the police station, he continued his “tirade of abuse” saying he was going to burn down the houses of the officers.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “He has a long-standing drugs problem. He was released and offended again. In his own words, he knows he’s pushed it too far this time.”

Sheriff Krista Johnston jailed Guthrie for ten months.
