A West Fife scout was recently awarded a King’s Coronation Medal for his service during the historic ceremony.
Ex-Inverkeithing High School student Ben Dykes was recognised for stewarding the streets of London and working with young people at the event.
The vice lord Lieutenant of Fife, Fiona Robertson, presented him with the medal during a meeting of the Rosyth District Scout Association.
His proud father Iain said: “Ben’s just in it for the enjoyment. He’s done scouting since he was six years old and he’s 20 now.
“They’ve given him tons of opportunities and he’s been all over with the Dalgety Bay Scouts, even as far as Holland. It’s a big network of people and if you approach a scout group anywhere and tell them you’re a scout you’ve definitely got people who are going to help you.”
On the coronation itself, Mr Dykes said: “Ben spoke about the amazing atmosphere and the fact that it was buzzing with excitement. It wasn’t that long after the pandemic, so it was nice to have a good news message and see people enjoy themselves.
“There was a minibus that went down, and it picked people up from as far as Aberdeen.”
