WEST Fife residents are still getting discoloured water from their taps following a period of outages on Sunday.

The problems were caused by a burst pipe and Dunfermline North councillor Gavin Ellis approached Scottish Water after being contacted by constituents.

He said: “Over the years I’ve seen loss of pressure from water services and outages from electric. Kingseat appears to suffer these more frequently than most.

“I took the decision to ask Scottish Water’s chief executive for a report back on what the issues are that seem to make it more of an issue for residents in Kingseat.

"I was pleased to get a quick response informing me this historical pattern will be looked at.”

The impact was felt across the Dunfermline area and a Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Overnight, teams successfully repaired a burst on a 700mm trunk water main in Powmill, which had impacted water supplies in the surrounding areas.

"To facilitate the repair, essential work on strategic valves in Powmill began on Sunday evening.

"This allowed for the isolation of the large water main, enabling complex valve operations to be safely carried out while ensuring that water supply to our customers was maintained throughout."

The company said that residents may continue to experience some temporary discolouration from their supply as the network fully settles.

The spokesperson added: “Last night (Monday), we conducted targeted flushing in the affected areas to help address this issue, and additional flushing will take place today at key points in the network to further improve the situation.

“We would like to reassure our customers that we are carrying out further work to improve our network resilience strategy in an effort to mitigate future interruptions across this area.”
