IMPROVEMENTS have been made to St Leonard’s Park with more changes on the way, including a £135,000 playpark with work starting early next year.

A new path with proper lighting has been installed and the drainage has been improved.

This comes after the Brucefield Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) held a consultation back in 2019 to ask locals what they would like to see done with the green space.

Numerous trees have been planted and new benches have also been installed.

Kathleen Langner, secretary of the association, said: “We actually had a masterplan drawn up which covers everything that could or would potentially happen in the park, and that comes in about £1 million - now whether we get all that done is another story.”

The path cost £160,000 to redo and the play area will cost £135,000.

The new path was funded by £100,000 from the Paths for All organisation and £60,000 from Fife Council's recovery fund.

The project has seen the installation of flood prevention measures, the removal of overgrown vegetation and the installation of lighting columns.

A new playpark has been approved and funding is being applied for.

Kathleen added: “The community is a lot more involved in what’s going on, this has been a long time coming, there’s been no improvement to the park for a long time.

“It’s been run down for a long time now, it’s getting the community interested.”

The new play area should be done early next year and will have a flying fox, climbing frame, as well as inclusive and accessible swings.

The latest Scottish Government play park funding for Dunfermline’s St Leonard’s is £80,000.
