With Hallowe'en fast approaching, you might be on the lookout for some spooky locations to visit as part of your festivities.

West Fife is home to numerous buildings that have some ghostly tales to tell, and a few have dark pasts to uncover.

Carnegie Hall

This venue is supposedly home to at least four spirits.

As previously reported in the Press, a spiritualist medium said every time he has set foot inside the hall’s period room he has felt a presence.

The ‘Carnegie Poltergeist’ has caused a lot of drama, with stories of glass exploding and furniture moving by itself.

Dunfermline Abbey and Palace

With a history stretching back to the 11th century, Dunfermline Abbey has witnessed some major historical events.

Over the years there have been reports of ghostly monks walking together through the walkway which joins Monastery Street to St Catherine’s Wynd.

Culross

Picturesque Culross was not able to escape the panicked witch hunts that occurred all over Scotland during the reign of James VI.

As previously reported in the Press, a memorial plaque for those accused of witchcraft was placed underneath an information board beside the bus stop on the village green.

This has since been removed for safe keeping.

The Alhambra Theatre

While the Alhambra is no-stranger to spooky shows, the theatre has also had investigations carried out by The Ghost Club in the past.

Club member Derek Green previously told the Press: “The Ghost Club carried out two previous investigations between 2008 and 2009 and it was during these that the investigators witnessed a sighting of the Alhambra’s own Woman in Black.

A report by the Ghost Club found that there have been numerous sightings of a woman in period costume, with a veil covering her face.

However, her presence is said to be a peaceful one.
