A 35-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after a "disturbance" in Dunfermline this afternoon.

Police had descended on Haig Crescent, in the Bellyeoman area of the city, and sealed off the street after the alarm was raised just before 2.30pm.

An eyewitness said there was around 10 police cars and vans on the scene, as well as armed officers and others in 'riot' gear, and described the scene as like a "siege".

Police Scotland have now issued an update and said: "A 35-year-old man has been arrested following a disturbance in the Haig Crescent area of Dunfermline.

"Officers were called to the area around 2.25pm on Wednesday October 9.

"There are no reported injuries and there was no risk to the wider public. Enquiries are ongoing.

"The man is expected to appear at court on Thursday October 10."

The eyewitness at the scene had earlier told the Press: "It's definitely a kind of siege. Apparently a guy has barricaded himself in."

Police officers were heard trying to speak to someone in a property in the street.

They later entered the property and a person was taken away in a police van around 6.20pm.
