A SHOPLIFTER who visited Dunfermline and helped himself to £600 worth of booze and cigarettes at a local supermarket has been granted bail.
Constantin Danica, a 33-year-old Romanian, has still to be sentenced for his shoplifting jaunt to Fife more than two years ago.
He is understood to be a member of shoplifting gang which travels up and down the country.
However, he has now been granted bail after his latest appearance at Dunfermline Sheriff Court by video-link from prison.
There was a translator present in court to assist him during the hearing.
Danica, of Millcroft Road, Cumbernauld, previously admitted that on September 10, 2022 at Asda superstore, Halbeath Retail Park, he stole a quantity of alcohol and tobacco products.
The stolen items were valued at £600 and there was no recovery.
Danica initially appeared in Dunfermline in September last year.
He has upcoming court cases in various places around Scotland.
The court was told no reports have been obtained by social workers even though Danica has been in prison.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf told the court, “It is believed that he is part of a shoplifting gang who travel extensively throughout the country making high value thefts.”
Sheriff Allan Findlay deferred sentencing until November 13 and granted bail. The reason put forward by the defence in seeking bail was that it would be easier to obtain the reports when Danica was at liberty.
