A Dunfermline alternative country band is fundraising to follow up on its successful debut album.
The Countess of Fife released Star of the Sea last year and were delighted with the reception.
Band frontwoman Fay Fife said: “The album got great reviews and exceeded my expectations. I think it was number 21 in the UK charts and number seven or something in the Scottish charts.
“The fact that it got into the charts was really delightful because as a homegrown thing you don’t know if that will be possible. The vinyl sold out completely.
“I took a conscious decision to really focus on things like vinyl. We are on the streaming sites, but I really love real records. That is of particular interest for record lovers.
"I couldn’t be playing with better musicians. We’re getting better shows because we’ve built a reputation, which is in part down to the album."
Fay explained that crowdfunding is the only option for many bands who want to release albums.
She said: “I think people need to know that in this day and age record companies don’t pay for these things anymore unless you’re a humongous act.
“This is the only way to do it. In the olden days they would pay for it up front, and the money would come out of your royalties eventually, but now that’s not the case.
“It makes it a bit stressful, but if you’re driven to create music like I am, you get on with it. It worked well last time.
“It’s been on the go for just under a week, so it’s early days. We need to raise £10,500 because that’s what it’s going to cost to record the album.”
The crowd funder on the platform Kickstarted has raised over £1700 so far.
Discussing the name of the second album, Fay said: I haven’t decided on the title yet. It’ll either be called “a woman of certain wisdom” or “New phone, new car, new man.”
She is keen for readers of the Press to tell the band which title they think is the best.
