A DRINK-driver crashed into a roundabout then viciously attacked his new girlfriend.

Aaron Gover “barely knew” the victim when he choked her and repeatedly banged her head off the car bonnet.

Gover, 25, of Sherbrooke Road, Rosyth, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing.

He admitted that on August 18 at Queensferry Road, Dunfermline, he assaulted the woman by repeatedly seizing her by the throat and repeatedly striking her head against the bonnet of a car.

He also admitted he drove having consumed excess alcohol. His reading was 30 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said the couple had only been a relationship for two weeks when the incident happened.

They had been out drinking in Dunfermline then went to Gover’s home where he became aggressive, “getting in her face”.

There was also a row about a mobile phone before he got in her car and drove, with her as a passenger.

He struck a roundabout but turned away help from a passing taxi driver.

Gover then attacked the woman, choking her and she was struggling to breathe.

He then “banged her head off the bonnet multiple times,” added the depute.

The woman escaped by running to stop a taxi, getting in and telling the driver to leave.

Defence solicitor Aime Allan said the offences were “out of character” for Gover, a first offender.

Sheriff Allan Findlay told Gover: “No doubt you’ve inflicted psychological damage on someone you barely knew.”

He ordered him to pay £500 compensation to the victim.

Gover was also banned from driving for a year and fined £420.
