West Fife residents have once again reported an interruption to their water supply, less than a week after suffering outages due to a burst pipe in the area.
Scottish Water is working on site to address the problem, which has affected the area around Kingseat.
A statement released by the company said: "We have identified the cause of the interruption to water supplies affecting customers in KY12 Kingseat, Dunfermline and are currently arranging the repair to return supplies to normal.
"The burst has been located on junction of Main Street and Church Street - and our team is currently on site. An estimated repair time will be provided once the excavation work has commenced.
"We are aware that customers in Kingseat have experienced repeat interruptions and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused."
This latest outage comes as the company prepares a response plan to address any future unplanned service disruptions in the village.
Households experienced discoloured water for days following outages on Sunday October 6.
Councillor Gavin Ellis contacted the company about historic issues around the local water supply. Following today's outage he wrote on social media: "Clearly not good enough and this after the CEO tells us that repairs carried out last year should stop this."
A Scottish Water spokesperson confirmed that Kingseat has suffered from "multiple service interruptions" over a period of years.
They said: “This has been predominantly due to recurring asset issues Scottish Water have had with our break pressure tank at Redcraigs, located five miles upstream of Kingseat near Lathalmond," they said.
“We completed some Capital Investment work in 2023 to permanently remove this asset from service and replaced it with a far more reliable twin Pressure Reducing Valve arrangement.
"Since we completed our capital intervention works, there have been no service interruptions throughout 2024 until the upstream trunk main burst on Sunday, October 6.
"We are satisfied that we have significantly improved our overall resilience around the Kingseat area with the capital investment work outlined above, but we do acknowledge that our customer response following Sunday's trunk main burst has fallen short of our excellent levels of customer service.”
The company said that provisions would be made for alternative supplies such as bottled water to be made available in the case of future outages.
