A DUNFERMLINE driver is facing being reported to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) after they failed a roadside drug test.
The motorist was pulled over in the city by Fife Road Policing officers and tested using a DrugWipe UK test which revealed that they were under the influence of a controlled substance.
Sharing the incident on X (formerly Twitter), Road Policing Scotland wrote: "#FifeRP stopped this vehicle in the Dunfermline area.
"The officers suspected the driver was under the influence of a controlled substance.
"The driver failed the @DrugWipeUK and was arrested so a blood sample could be taken. If over the limit a report will be submitted."
Drivers who fail the roadside drug test are then taken to the Police station for a blood test.
This test checks for:
- cannabis
- cocaine
- heroin
- ketamine
- LSD
- MDMA and ecstasy
- speed or amphetamine
- meth or methylamphetamine
- benzoylecgonine, the chemical produced when cocaine is broken down by your body
Scotland has a strict zero-tolerance approach to drug driving, and those who take even a small amount of illegal drugs can be charged.
If convicted, drivers can expect:
- a driving ban of at least 1 year
- between 3 and 11 penalty points
- either a fine of up to £5,000, up to 6 months in prison, or both
- a criminal record
Your driving licence will show you've been convicted of drug driving. This lasts for 11 years.
