A 59-year-old Dunfermline woman, who had been drinking before she was found lying on the ground near her car, has been banned from the roads.

Sharon Brown, of Dornoch Place, appeared back at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing.

She previously admitted that on October 25 last year at Clockluine Road, Hillend, she drove a car having consumed excess alcohol.

Her reading was 109 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, the limit being 50 milligrammes.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said the incident occurred in the afternoon. A member of the public contacted the police about a woman lying on the ground with a car nearby, up on a grass verge.

An ambulance arrived and Brown gave a false name before saying she had been going to kill herself. In her car was a bottle of wine, tablets and a note.

Defence solicitor Alan Davie previously told the court was a “sad matter” with his client having no previous convictions and a career of almost 40 years as a midwife.

“Her mental health has deteriorated significantly in the last year and this was an attempt to commit suicide,” he added.

Sheriff Garry Sutherland banned Brown from driving for a year and fined her £420.
