UNEMPLOYMENT across Fife rose by five per cent in September.
The figures from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) showed there are now 7,825 people in the Kingdom claiming Universal Credits, an increase of 365 compared to last year.
Despite the rise, DWP External Relations Leader in Fife, Sue Jeffrey, said there were still vacancies for those looking to get into work.
“Now is a great time for jobseekers to kick-start their career aspirations," she said. "One way is to apply for some of the many Christmas jobs being advertised locally, as a stepping-stone to get back into the work routine, while developing new skills and sharpening existing ones.
"With the support of their Work Coach, jobseekers can get the help they need to take full advantage of opportunities available now with employers such as Amazon, Next, M&S, Boots, Tesco, G4S and The Entertainer.
