Dunfermline singer/songwriter Kirsten Adamson has started recording her third studio album, following a successful crowdfunding campaign which raised £21,630.

Miss Adamson said: “It’s pretty wild that we’ve raised the money to be honest. I set the target high thinking that we might not get there, and I couldn’t believe it when we did.

“The crowdfunder ended on Sunday October 13, but me and the band were playing the day before in Aberdeen and for some reason it just took off that day.

“We were checking it every ten minutes or so, and the figure just kept going up and up. All of a sudden about half an hour before we went on stage I was just like ‘that’s it lads, we’ve hit the target.’

“We were like a football team celebrating backstage. Even though there were only four of us, the noise must have been travelling through the hallways.”

Crowdfunding is now a common way of raising money to produce a record. Miss Adamson said: “It’s the kind of thing that record labels probably wouldn’t give you an advance for now.

“Most of the time they want you to come to them with the finished product. It’s not the eighties anymore, that’s for sure.

“It creates a buzz for the fans before the album has even come out. This record won’t actually be released until around next September, but it gets people talking about it which is a cool thing.

“They know that they’ve supported you to make it happen, which makes them want to come out to the gigs. It all becomes a bit more personal, and community based rather than just advertising."

This will be Miss Adamson’s third studio album. She said: “The tracks are maybe a bit more Americana rock based than my previous album “Landing Place” was, but it’s just the direction my song writing's taken over the past couple of years.

“I’ve written maybe 30 songs since then, so it was quite difficult to pick the ones to go on the album. Because I’ve been on tour with this band for a year and a half, we’ve kind of developed a bit of a sound together.

“The tracks are inspired a lot by things that have happened since Covid and in my life. I’m constantly changing who I’m listening to and who I’m inspired by, and I think that comes through on this new record.

“What you’re going to hear on the record is mostly live. That was great to do because it means that things aren’t being clinically overdubbed, and it’s got a real energy about it.”

Kirsten and her guitarist Jon Mackenzie have recorded 13 other tracks which aren’t on the record, which will be split across 3 digital EPs and released in the lead up to the album.

The first EP is due to come out at the end of the November.

On the Album’s name, “Dreamviewer”, Miss Adamson said: “It was inspired by one of my son’s toys. Dream viewers are those little goggles that you can look through and change the picture on them, there’s a track on the album with the same name.

"It’s all about not being able to predict the future but having a hope for things to happen.”

She also sings and plays guitar in the Dunfermline band “The Countess of Fife”, which is currently crowdfunding to release a follow up to its successful debut album.
