Roadworks lasting over three weeks are set to begin on a main route through West Fife.

The works to improve the road surface on the A985 at Crombie and High Valleyfield will get underway on Monday (October 28).

Bear Scotland, who are carrying out the project, say that to ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, it will be necessary to close sections of the A985 at these locations during the works with signed diversions in place.

They will take place at Crombie from Monday to Friday from 7.30pm until 6.30am with a road closure and signed diversion between Cairneyhill Roundabout and the Kings Road Roundabout.

Traffic will be diverted via Cairneyhill Roundabout, then onto the A907 and Carnegie Drive. From there, it will continue through Bothwell Gardens Roundabout to the A823, then onto Queensferry Road. The route will proceed to Pitreavie Roundabout and finally onto the B980.

This diversion will add approximately 1.5 miles and 14 minutes to affected journeys.

From November 4 until November 20, work will take place at High Valleyfield from 7.30pm until 6.30am with the road closure with signed diversion between Longannet Roundabout and Cairneyhill Roundabout.

Traffic will be diverted via A977, Kilbagie Roundabout, Gartarry Roundabout, A907, and A944. This route will add approximately 9.8 miles and 19 minutes to affected journeys.

No works are planned at weekends Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South-East Network Manager said: “These surfacing improvements will address and repair defects in the road surface such as potholes and cracking, creating safer and smoother journeys for motorists.

"It is essential for the safety of the workforce that we close the carriageway during these works, however, we’ve scheduled this during overnight hours to minimise any disruption.”

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while our teams carry out these improvements.”
