THERE are plans to turn the floor above a hair and beauty salon in Dunfermline into a five-bedroom home.

Asif Hussain, of King Enterprises, owns the Kings pub in Kelty among several other businesses and has applied to Fife Council for a change of use at 14 Chapel Street.

Complete Hair and Beauty is on the ground floor and a supporting statement said the first floor of the building is office space which has been empty for almost 10 years.

It said the premises have been advertised for commercial use but there had been no interest.

The statement explained: "Vacant buildings can promote an impression of stagnation in the local economy, therefore this development can directly contribute to the enhancement of the overall visual amenity and streetscape of this part of Chapel Street.

"With a greater focus on providing much needed residential accommodation and the revitalisation of town and city centres this proposal will add residents right in the heart of the city who will support local businesses and add to the economic development of the Dunfermline area."

The application is for a change of use from office space to residential with the floorspace on the first floor just short of 1,800 square feet.

It concluded: "There is plenty of room for entry to the residential part of the property at the side of the building along with a bin storage area to the opposite side of the entrance as noted on the block plan enclosed with the application.

"The ground floor at the street front will remain as retail."
