A DUNFERMLINE resident is celebrating the success of his Fife bin schedule app and is planning to launch more.

Paul Fraser launched his Fife bins app in June to check when bins were scheduled to go out, as he was annoyed at the amount of steps involved via the Fife Council website.

He commented: “My brother lives in Dunfermline as well and he had suggested there should be an app for it, and I was like yeah there should be an app for it, why isn’t there an app for it?

“I had the idea of contacting Fife Council and doing an FOI to collect all the collection data, so that allowed me to create the app.”

As a web developer, Paul is used to creating things on the internet and used his skills in this area to create the app.

“The data that you get from Fife Council it’s not in a readable format, it has addresses and then there’s what kind of bin it is.

“I take all the data that Fife Council gave me, I put it into ChatGPT to help me decipher what it means.” He added.

Paul said: “The other thing I am working on within Fife collections app, is I am adding all the recycling centres and their opening times and information like what you can and can’t take.”

To use the app, people simply enter their postcode, select their address, and view their personalised bin collection calendar.

Just a few weeks ago, Paul also launched a bin schedule app for Edinburgh to allow residents in the capital to put in their postcodes and check when their next collection will be.

The Fife app now has over 3000 users, while the Edinburgh app has around 1500 people using it.

There are also apps for Stirling and North Ayrshire, and Paul has plans to create one for Clackmannanshire.
