BABCOCK have outlined plans for a new secure compound which will be needed for the next stages of the Submarine Dismantling Project in Rosyth.

They've applied to Fife Council for a certificate of lawfulness to change the use of a car park on Keith Road and turn it into a storage facility.

There are seven old nuclear submarines at the dockyard and the aim is to remove the radioactive waste and recycle 90 per cent of the former Royal Navy boats to turn them into "tin cans and razors".

The secure yard, which will be surrounded by three metres high walls, is described as a laydown area and contractors compound that's needed for stages three and four of the submarine dismantling project.

Measuring roughly 45 metres by 35 metres, it will take up around half an acre of land close to dry dock number three.

There will be 86 parking spaces lost as a result - Babcock said there are plenty of spaces elsewhere on the site - and the plans also include gates and drainage infrastructure.
