THE operators of a Dunfermline recycling and waste disposal centre say staff are being supported after the tragic death of a man at the facility.
A 66 year-old man died at the Lochhead Recycling Centre at Wellwood on Wednesday afternoon.
The site is owned and operated by Cireco who run recycling centres on behalf of Fife Council.
Its chief executive, Robin Baird, confirmed this afternoon that the facility is currently closed following the fatal incident.
“This is a tragic situation," he said. "The thoughts of everyone at Cireco are with the family, friends and loved ones of our colleague at this very difficult time.

“We are supporting the Police and the Health and Safety Executive with their investigations and will not be able to comment further on the incident until those investigations have concluded.
“The wellbeing of our staff at Cireco is paramount to us. We are speaking to all our colleagues and support is being made available for anyone who needs it.
“I hope everyone will understand that some disruption to service is inevitable at this time.
"We will update the public about the availability of recycling facilities as soon as possible through fife.gov.uk and local media.”
Fife Council say they are providing all possible support to colleagues at Cireco and will work with Police Scotland and the HSE as required.
Emergency services raced to the facility at around 4.30pm on Wednesday following reports that a man had been injured.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a man having been injured at a premises north of Wellwood, Dunfermline, around 4.30pm on Wednesday, 30 October, 2024.
“Emergency services attended, however the 66-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are continuing and the Health and Safety Executive has been notified.”
A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive added: “We are aware and investigating alongside Police Scotland.”
