A drunk Dunfermline man broke into a local bar in the early hours of the morning.
Craig McMahon, 49 and unemployed, later claimed he had no idea why he had committed the crime.
He forced the main door at PJ Molloys, triggering the alarm and was caught there by police before he had time to steal anything.
McMahon, of Golfdrum Street, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on August 7 he broke into the commercial premises occupied by PJ Molloys, Canmore Street, Dunfermline, with intent to steal.
Depute fiscal Rachel Wallace said the licensee received a notification at 1.13am that an alarm had been activated at the premises.
He viewed the pub’s CTTV remotely and could see someone was in the lobby area inside the pub.
The police were called and arrived minutes later, finding McMahon still in the lobby.
Defence solicitor Shona Westwood said: “He has very little recollection as he was very intoxicated at the time.
“He’s very ashamed of his behaviour. Nothing was actually stolen and he doesn’t know why he was trying to get in there. It’s been very poor decision making.”
Sheriff Derek Reekie commented: “He’s not made a decision if he doesn’t even know why he was in there.”
He added: “The police were there within nine minutes so it’s not surprising he didn’t have time to take anything.”
The sheriff called for reports and McMahon will be sentenced on 27 November.
