WORK is underway on a £40,000 upgrade of the Fife Coastal Path at Dalgety Bay.

A section between Harbour Place and The Bridges - part of the National Cycle Route 76 - is being improved by a Fife Council team.

The project to upgrade and widen the existing unsurfaced path, remove encroaching bushes and vegetation and instal new lighting along the route started last week.

In addition, with the agreement of residents living in St David’s Harbour, it is hoped that the council will be able to formally adopt the existing path running along the front of the flats and overlooking the Forth.

Local councillor Patrick Browne said: "This stretch of the coastal path is very heavily used by locals and by visitors and the serious walkers who take on the length of the coastal path.

"The path’s upgrade will be welcomed by all those who use it and should make that little bit of the coastal path easier to walk.

“The addition of lighting along the unlit portion of this stretch will also make it safer for people using it during the winter months and all year round.”

The bulk of the funding for the upgrade has come from the Scottish Government with contributions from the council.
