HUNDREDS of people marched along Dunfermline High Street at the weekend to show their support for the people of Palestine.

The peaceful march for Palestine was organised by the Fife Stop the War Coalition and saw people make their way from Viewfield Terrace, along the High Street to the Mercat Cross where a rally took place.

Lewis Akers, from the coalition, said the demonstration went well.

"It was very good," he said. "We had an estimated 300 people there, potentially slightly more. There was a massive representation from local political parties, from Kirkcaldy Mosque, from Dunfermline ISlamic Centre and all the trade unions in Fife.

"It was a real coalition of different organisations and lots of people who came along because they thing that slaughtering children is wrong."

Mr Akers said the event attracting young and old participants.

"There was a range of people and experiences," he added. "Given we are now a year in and 40,000 people have been slaughtered indiscriminately in Gaza and that is slipping over to Yemen and Lebanon, more are now realising how serious it is.

"I think the opinion polls bear that our that the majority of people in the UK support all the demands we were making on Saturday – an immediate ceasefire, to stop sending arms to Israel and for an independent sate for Palestinian people so they can live in peace on their own land."
