A Ballingry man armed himself with a shovel, a bottle and a meat cleaver during a stand-off with police which lasted five hours.

Krai Harry Sweeney, 33, of Kirkton Park, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing for two separate matters.

Between January 1 and 31, 2019, at Innes Court, Airdrie, he shouted, swore, acted aggressively and damaged household items including a mirror.

He also assaulted his then partner by punching her on the head to her injury. He had been placed a community payback order but this was breached.

Then on July 10 and 11 last year at Kildownie Crescent, Ballingry, he shouted, swore, made offensive and derogatory comments.

He repeatedly smashed a shovel against a gate, made threats to harm police officers, held a knife to his own throat and threatened to self-harm.

On July 11 last year at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, he threatened violence to police officers and their families, attempted to strike his head against a police vehicle and attempted to spit at officers.

Depute fiscal Brogan Moffat said officers had gone to the house and Sweeney immediately became aggressive towards them.

He armed himself with a shovel and shouted: “If anyone comes in, I’ll f****** smash their heads in.”

He then shouted, “I’ll f****** kill you, you bald c*** and you fat bitch”.

The incident started at about 11pm and went on until 4.15am.

During that time, Sweeney armed himself with a glass bottle and shouted more death threats.

He was then seen holding a meat cleaver and said he would slit his own throat.

Defence solicitor Aime Allan said her client has “a complex medical history and was struggling with his mental health”.

Officers had gone to the house on a welfare call but Sweeney had found the police presence “triggering” she added.

Sheriff Mark O’Hanlon revoked the remaining 60 hours of unpaid work on the case from Airdrie and fined Sweeney £320 instead.

For the Fife offences, he imposed a 75-day restriction of liberty order.
