WORK is underway on a project to install five glamping pods near Inzievar Estate in Oakley.

The development, at a section of woodland on land east of North Lodge, was approved by Fife Council in September last year.

The planning permission came with several conditions, including a requirement for work to start within three years of the approval date, and for planning officers to be informed of the start date.

The council have now been notified, confirming the project began on November 6.

Mr Cree Spowart, the landowner, initially submitted the plans in August 2022 and a planning statement explained: "There is a growing demand for staycations in Scotland and we believe this will generate and promote tourism in the area.

“This development will bring employment and profit to local facilities and shops.

"The area is an idyllic location which will attract holidaymakers and clientele passionate for the countryside such as artists, hikers, cyclists and photographers.”

The hope is that 'glamorous camping' will have a positive impact and appeal to hikers and cyclists with its easy access to the West Fife Way.

The plans said that no trees will be removed - "actually the complete opposite will be happening" - and around 50 new native trees would be planted.

In addition to the start date, several other conditions were laid out in the planning approval, including junction alterations, visibility splays, new drainage systems and landscaping.

The project is seen as a way to diversify and boost the local tourism economy, offering an alternative to traditional accommodation options.

Notification of the project's completion date will have to be submitted to Fife Council once the work is finished.
