A PROFESSIONAL thief who targeted a Dunfermline supermarket as part of a Romanian shoplifting gang has gone AWOL again.

Constantin Danica, part of a travelling crime group, has still to be sentenced for his shoplifting visit to Fife more than two years ago.

He previously failed to turn at court but was arrested and appeared via a video-link from prison last month.

The sheriff was persuaded to grant him bail and when it came to sentencing, the dock was empty again.

Danica, 33, helped himself to £600 worth of booze and cigarettes at a local supermarket.

He is understood to be a member of shoplifting gang which travels up and down the country thieving as they go.

Danica has appeared at several courts across Scotland for shoplifting.

Danica, of Millcroft Road, Cumbernauld, previously admitted that on 10th September 2022 at Asda superstore, Halbeath Retail Park, he stole a quantity of alcohol and tobacco products.

The stolen items were valued at £600 and there was no recovery.

Danica initially appeared in Dunfermline in September last year but failed to appear for his next hearing.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf previously told the court: “It is believed that he is part of a shoplifting gang who travel extensively throughout the country making high value thefts.”

Last month, visiting Sheriff Allan Findlay had deferred sentencing for social work reports and granted bail.

The argument put forward by the defence in seeking bail was that it would be easier to obtain the reports when Danica was at liberty.

Sheriff Krista Johnston granted a warrant for his arrest.
