A Dunfermline DJ has announced a family rave day to be held in the city centre next year.

The venue is the Brasshouse nightclub, and the event will take place between 1pm and 3pm on August 2.

Organiser Darren “Dazza” Crombie said: “Being a DJ myself, I do a lot of private hires. There are kids’ parties, and adult parties, but you never really see family events.

“The idea to do a family rave in the afternoon during summertime just popped into my head. I want to give families the opportunity to go out and have a boogie together.

“When I first thought of the idea, I didn’t think it would get the reaction that it did. After the post skyrocketed within the first couple of minutes, I said to the Mrs ‘yeah I’m going to need to do this.’ “

Mr Crombie grew up enjoying dance music with older family members, and wants to share the experience with others. He said: “Both of my parents were raised listening to 90s tunes, and because my stepdad and his mates are all DJs, they got me into doing it too.

“I never properly got into DJing until the first lockdown when everything was closed. Me and my stepdad just sat in the house for seven or eight months and fired away on the livestreams.

“Then we both got a gig each. He got Coadys and I got Life nightclub.”

Rave culture has traditionally been associated with hedonism, but Mr Crombie believes that there’s more to the scene. He added: “This is something to kind of show that you don’t always need to involve having a drink to go partying for a couple of hours. There’s more than just alcohol involved, it’s more the atmosphere of being there.

“When you’re a kid, you go to a disco and you dance about like crazy, then you’re shattered.

“I played at a Halloween party for my old primary school and all they wanted to hear was like 90s clubland and GBX tracks.  Surprisingly they know a lot of the words.”
