FIFE Road Police stopped numerous drivers for illegal window tint yesterday (Monday, November 18).
Officers were carrying out checks when they spotted a number of drivers with window tint that did not comply with regulations.
The law states that for cars first used on April 1, 1985, or later, window tint on front windscreens must let at least 75 per cent of light through, while front side windows must let at least 70 per cent of light through.
For vehicles first used before April 1, 1985, the front windscreen and front side windows must both let at least 70 per cent of light through.
#FifeRP spotted a number of vehicles where front side windows were not allowing 70% light through. If your vehicle is fitted with illegal window tints, it could be prohibited and/or you could be issued a fixed penalty of £100 and 3 points.

In this case, all cars stopped by Fife Road Police had illegal tint on their front side windows.
Those caught with illegal tint face a ‘prohibition notice’ which stops them from using the vehicle on the road until the extra tint is removed, a penalty notice of £100 and three points on their license or a court summons.
