A 'historic' garden in Dunfermline has been given a makeover.

Abbot House Garden, which was originally designed by the BBC Beechgrove Garden Team in the 1990s, received a new look thanks to a £20,000 grant from Dunfermline’s Area Committee.

Louise Hutchison, manager of Abbot House, said: "Our walled garden at Abbot House is one of the most beautiful spots in Dunfermline and is enjoyed by so many locals and visitors.

"It was really important to us not to change the garden too much and to give it some TLC.

"The design has given the original Beechgrove concept a contemporary update, paying respect to the old while embracing the new."

The funds allowed the Abbot House Board to appoint garden design and landscaping company, The Outdoor Living Co.

Simon Krolczyk, the design consultant, said: "Our goal was to breathe new life into the space while honouring its original charm.

"By introducing a more diverse palette of plants, we've created a tapestry of colours and textures that will evolve beautifully with the seasons.

"We hope the garden brings joy to its visitors for years to come."

Ms Hutchison also noted that the project was carefully timed to avoid disruption to Prost Coffee, the tenant cafe, and that the feedback so far has been "very positive."

The project also involved the contribution of Abbot House Garden volunteers, who advised the company on introducing evergreens to ensure year-round colour.

Ms Hutchison added: "The cherry on the cake was that we could offer the plants that were still healthy to the Friends of Pittencrieff Park for use in the Glen."

James Calder, convener of Dunfermline Area Committee, said: "We were delighted that we could help with improving the Abbot House Garden, a key part of Dunfermline’s offer for visitors and the local community."
