A West Fife Councillor is confident that Scottish Water will have produced a bespoke emergency response plan for Kingseat by 2025, following “historic problems” with outages.
Councillor Gavin Ellis met with representatives from the company following successive incidents in October which led customers to experience outages and discoloured water.
He said: “Like last time, they admitted that the response wasn’t good enough.
“With Kingseat issues it historically has been poor, however they are working on putting in a bespoke plan for the village which will either involve having storage of water available or delivering it in advance to make sure that bottled water is available.
“They’re putting it together and I’m feeding back, which enables us to tailor it specifically to the village. It's really important that we get this plan in place, especially in the winter months when the village can become isolated by the weather.
“They also provided me with direct numbers, which speeds up communication instead of going through a contact customer centre."
Mr Ellis raised concerns that a new housing development could impact the village's supply, but he said: “Scottish Water is confident that new developments will not affect Kingseat because they will run off a different pump.”
October’s outages in Kingseat affected residents around West Fife, including Dunfermline.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: "After a number of burst water pipes caused interruptions to customer water supplies, we have been making upgrades to the water network to provide a more resilient service.
“One of the main upgrades was installing a new Pressure Reducing Valve system, which gives us better control and makes the supply more reliable for both Dunfermline and Kingseat.
"After the most recent outage caused by a burst pipe near Powmill in October, our network and customer focus teams are working on an emergency response plan.
“This is nearing completion as we work with key stakeholders across the business to refine and enhance our approach to supporting customers, communicating updates, and managing incidents effectively.
"We are committed to working closely with the local community and representatives such as Councillor Ellis."
