A by-election for a new councillor is taking place today.

The West Fife and Coastal Villages by-election is taking place after former ward one councillor Graeme Downie (Scottish Labour) resigned from the role.

Downie was elected as a member of parliament for the Dunfermline and Dollar constituency in the July general election.

There are seven candidates standing, these include: Karen Elizabeth Beaton for the Scottish Labour Party, Paul Antony Buchanan Quigley for the Scottish Liberal Democrats, Fiona Margaret McOwan for the Scottish Greens, George Charles Morton as an independent, David James Ross for the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party, Daniel Gerard Smith for the Scottish Family Party, and Paul Edward Steele for the Scottish National Party.

The count for the election will take place on the morning of Friday, November 29.
